  • Abril Vela

    CO-FOUNDER & CEO

    Abril is a proud alumna of Chicago Public Schools and a product of the #CSforAll movement. While a CPS student, Abril founded the organization Chicago Girls in Computing to support young women in their pursuit of computing education and careers. Abril attended the University of Michigan where she received a Bachelor of Science in Information Science. She has spent the past decade working as a social entrepreneur and community organizer focused on connecting educators and business owners interested in promoting equity and inclusion in tech. Abril most recently served as the Special Projects Coordinator for the Office of Computer Science at CPS.

  • Julia Flores

    CO-FOUNDER & PRINCIPAL CONSULTANT

    Julia was born and raised on the South Side of Chicago where she attended several Chicago Public Schools before going on to attend the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and later, Roosevelt University. She has a bachelor’s degree in Finance, a master’s degree in Secondary Education, and an MBA. Over the course of 15 years, Julia became a teacher, school administrator, and district administrator primarily within Career and Technical Education at CPS. She then served as a Director of Instruction for one of the largest out-of-school-time non-profits in the United States before returning to CPS to collaborate with the Office of Computer Science to develop the first-ever holistic CS program in the nation.

  • Troy Williams

    CO-FOUNDER & PRINCIPAL CONSULTANT

    TBorn and raised on the South Side of Chicago, Troy took his first computer class at his local community college at the age of 12. Troy went on to study computer science and received his Bachelor’s degree from Northern Illinois University. He began his career as an IT professional earning 18 years of hands-on experience before moving over to the education sector. He worked as a help desk technician, where he spent time troubleshooting basic hardware and software issues, desktop support, then network administration, and eventually became a voice-over IP administrator. As an educator, Troy most recently supported CS education as the Integration Manager then Interim Director of the Office of Computer Science at CPS.

  • Charity Freeman

    PRINCIPAL CONSULTANT

    A native of New Hampshire, Charity has been a Chicago resident for over 20 years. With a bachelor’s degree in Business and a master’s in Education Policy, she supported CPS high school students as a college/career coach, taught business and computer science courses in Grades 7 through 12, and led a Professional Learning Community of CS educators in the city’s south, west, and southwest neighborhoods, in partnership with the district’s Office of Computer Science. She then transitioned to the University of Illinois, focusing on building teacher capacity in computer science at the middle and high school levels. Charity serves on the Expanding Computing Education Pathways (ECEP) Illinois leadership team and co-chairs a statewide working group on scaling equitable CS education as a Governor-appointed member of the Illinois P-20 Council.
